André received a PhD in biology from New York University, and an MBA from the University of Washington. He has published articles in Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Neurophysiology, Neuroscience, and other peer-reviewed journals. He was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellow at the Center for Neurobiology and Behavior at Columbia University, a Mellon Fellow in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington, and Assistant Member in the Department of Molecular Medicine at Northwest Hospital. His passion is to apply scientific knowledge and methods to business.

Being at the intersection of two fields can be challenging. While at Columbia, André developed an interest in the physiological role of glycoconjugates (lipids or proteins with attached carbohydrates). Glycoscience tends to view these molecules from a static (descriptive) or all-or-none binding perspective. Physiologists regard the same molecules as too non-specific. It was a tough sell. Similarly, attracting early adopters interested in applying neuroscience to business decision making may take time. These early adopters will gain an edge. The potential is huge. This is simply too important not to try.

Teaching is fun, especially to small groups and individuals. In these interactions, both sides learn. Learning is fun!

Many thanks to Scott Parris for initiating the conversations that led to this.
